Sixth National Delivering Diplomas Conference: Morning lectures and addresses
Development, Silent Edge Ltd & Diploma Employer Champion
The Delivering Diplomas conference and exhibition will give access to key Diploma support bodies and organisations, including the Sector Skills Councils, as well as suppliers of Diploma services and awarding bodies. We will also be joined by Diploma students from Hanham High School (Kingswood Partnership, South Gloucestershire), who will be showcasing their work, and speaking to delegates.
Chris Parr welcomes delegates and sets the scene for the conference.
Sue Kirkham, Education Policy Specialist,
Association of School and College Leaders
An expert on government policy and the Diploma, Ms Kirkham will discuss the implications of a new government for Diploma delivery. Phase 4 has already been axed and more changes are expected. Will Lines of Learning merge? What will the expected removal of entitlement mean? And what will this mean for consortia?
Brian Rossiter, Headteacher, Valley School, Worksop (Bassetlaw Consortium)
The Bassetlaw consortium has been delivering Diplomas since they began in 2008 and its best practice models have featured prominently in Delivering Diplomas magazine. Mr Rossiter discusses how they will be taking forward delivery in a new political climate, looking at how their approach may change under a new government and what this means for his consortium.

Dr Gill Haynes, Senior Lecturer, School of Education and Lifelong Learning, Exeter University

Bethanie Williams, Head of Corporate Data, UCAS
Joanna Wilkins, Diploma Tracking Data Officer, UCAS
UCAS has been closely following the first cohort of students to access Higher Education using the Advanced Diploma. This seminar will share the lessons learned from year one, including hints and tips to pass on to Diploma students hoping to go into HE in future years.
Sixth National Delivering Diplomas Conference: Workshop overviews
The afternoon will feature eight workshops featuring leading experts and practitioners. Workshops A to D will run in the first hour, followed by workshops E to H in the second hour. Delegates are free to move between workshops, although you should state a preferred workshop for each session when booking.
Back by popular demand, this workshop will feature experts from the main Diploma awarding bodies who will be able to answer any questions from delegates about their Diploma delivery.
Experts, including our morning speakers from Exeter University and the National Foundation for Educational Research, will inform delegates about progression to higher education for Diploma students.
Our award-winning Diploma employers from the National Delivering Diplomas Awards 2010 will talk to practitioners and employers about their best practice and Diploma engagement.
The students of Hanham High School have lit up previous conferences with their insights into what inspires and engages them about Diploma delivery. Delegates will have the chance at this event to quiz the students and their teacher about what to them makes an inspiring Diploma offer.
This session will examine how the Diploma Development Partnerships will continue to support the Diploma roll out programme in light of the recent decision to end funding. This support will focus upon employer engagement and bring support to consortia or other deliverers. Hosted by Semta, this workshop will concentrate on Engineering, but will have relevance to other Diploma lines as well.
Our award-winning teachers and lecturers from the National Delivering Diploma Awards 2010 will offer their advice and best practice on Diploma delivery. This includes discussion of best practice, available resources, Diploma pedagogy, and adapting and developing Line of Learning Frameworks.
Diploma assessment is another area in which many of our previous delegates have requested more information. Following on from the Awarding Bodies session earlier in the day, this workshop will discuss how to organise Diploma assessment and what best practice looks like.
One of our award-winning consortia from the National Delivering Diplomas Awards will offer their advice on all aspects of Diploma delivery including setting up, developing and sustaining your offer.
